X++ development for Dynamics 365.
We develop Dynamics 365 Finance extensions and related applications. First, we review the workflow, its records, the gap in standard behaviour and the tests needed to confirm the change.
Choose the smallest useful extension
A requirement may be solved through configuration, a supported integration or X++ development. We inspect the standard process and existing customisations before choosing the extension point. The design identifies the affected forms, services, data entities and transaction boundaries, alongside the applications and versions in scope.
- Business workflow and exception analysis
- Supported extension points and existing customisations
- Forms, classes and data entity scope
- Company context, access and transaction boundaries
Make the integration contract explicit
An interface needs more than a list of fields. We define record ownership, identifiers, required values, update direction and the result of a failed request. OData entities and custom services are selected against the actual platform interface and workflow. Financial and inventory dimensions are resolved in their company context rather than transferred as unexplained strings.
- Entity and service discovery
- Typed requests and response contracts
- Idempotency and duplicate handling
- Financial and inventory dimension mapping
Investigate the record behind the symptom
A wrong reference or missing value can originate earlier in the workflow. We trace the source document, transaction and display or integration path before changing the visible output. Diagnostics should distinguish a data issue from an extension defect and identify the conditions in which the failure occurs. Sensitive client data remains in the agreed environment.
Build, test and hand over the change
The delivery package records the extension scope, dependencies, build environment and test cases. Compilation verifies a technical condition; representative runtime tests establish whether the workflow behaves correctly. Business owners accept the normal path, corrections and important failures. Release approval, recovery planning and support responsibilities are agreed separately.
- Source and dependency review
- Compilation and relevant automated checks
- Representative runtime and business tests
- Release notes, recovery and support handover
Your questions, answered.
How do you approach Dynamics 365 F&O customization?
We review the standard workflow and existing customisations before choosing configuration, a supported integration or an X++ extension. The agreed scope includes dependencies, compilation and representative runtime tests.
Can you work with existing X++ customisations?
Yes. We inspect the installed applications, dependencies and extension scope before proposing a change. Access and release responsibilities are agreed for the customer environment.
Is a successful build enough to accept a change?
No. Build results establish compilation; runtime and business tests must cover the affected workflow, data and permissions.
Do you develop custom services and data entities?
Those can be part of a scoped integration. The supported interface, security, company context and error contract are confirmed before implementation.
